Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield is an RPG game developed and published by Game Freak in 2019. The game received critical reviews and brought great revenue to the producer. In the story, the game revolves around the journey of a young man who captures and trains Pokémon. They appear in the modern city that accompanies Hop, a close friend to complete the assigned task. The crisis of the dark days has frightened and scattered Pokémon to many places in the forest. Some of them fall into enemy hands and are controlled by them. Confront this dangerous situation, Hop and his friends must train Pokémon warriors to attack enemies and rescue other Pokémon.
On the Nintendo Switch platform, the game offers two single-player and multi-player modes. Players will play the main character through many stages with the help of Hop. They are provided with a journey map to mark the places they have traveled to. The first phase takes place in the city, and the encounter between the player and Hop begins. After a conversation with Hop, they find a common goal and leave the house they live in. Players are offered 3 initial Pokémon and set out for the forest. Here they use Pokémon to fight other Pokémon. When defeating an opponent, the player will subdue it and take them to the training room. Pokémon will gain experience points after winning. The Pokémon strength index depends on the system and level they possess. Through their training, Pokémon will accumulate battle skills and dodge attacks from opponents. Each Pokémon possesses each special skill that can be activated after a period of battle. This skill creates great damage to the opponent and helps them to recruit new Pokémon easily. Besides, Pokémon can also be purchased inside stores in the city by the player. The enemies on their journey are Leon, Sordward, and Shielbert. With their fighting skills and experience, players will win and win every opponent’s Pokémon. After all the battles have ended, they return to the house and complete their mission.
The game takes the style of an adventure game with beautiful 3D images. The turn-based battles between Pokémon come to life, bringing suspense and anticipation for the players. In addition, the soft sounds throughout the journey also increase the challenge and appeal to them.
